Registering your motor vehicle under BRTA in Bangladesh is a legal requirement. This process records your vehicle in the national database, links it to your name, and issues necessary documents such as the Digital Blue Book, RFID number plate, and ultimately the Digital Registration Certificate (DRC).

The registration process involves:

  • Collecting required documents
  • Paying registration fees
  • Submitting an application to BRTA
  • Undergoing inspection
  • Receiving official registration documents.

Start by buying your car, bike, or commercial vehicle from an authorized dealer or certified seller. Make sure you obtain the sales invoice, bill of entry (if imported), and other ownership papers.

Gather the documents you’ll need for BRTA submission. These include:

  • Sales invoice / purchase receipt
  • Import documents (Bill of Lading, LCA, etc.)
  • TIN certificate from NBR
  • Sale certificate or proof of sale
  • Customs clearance certificate
  • MUSAK / VAT documents (if applicable)

If you are purchasing a reconditioned vehicle, you’ll also need:

  • De-registration certificate from the previous country
  • English translated copy
  • Signed ‘TO’ and ‘TTO’ forms

For company-owned vehicles, ensure the application carries the official seal and signature.

Calculate your fees based on vehicle type and engine capacity. Payments must be made at designated banks. Keep all fee receipts carefully, as they will be required during BRTA submission.

Visit the appropriate BRTA circle office. Submit the filled application form (available at BRTA offices or downloadable from the BRTA website under the DOWNLOAD FORMS section) along with your documents and payment receipts.

The BRTA officials will:

  • Verify your application
  • Issue an assessment slip for your payments (if not already settled)
  • Schedule an inspection date

Bring your vehicle to the BRTA premises on the given date. A Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) will inspect your vehicle to verify its condition, chassis number, engine number, and compliance with regulations.

Once satisfied, the MVI forwards the file for digital data entry into the BRTA Information System. The Assistant Director (Engineering) then approves your registration.

After successful verification, you will receive:

  • An acknowledgement receipt showing your assigned registration number
  • Fitness certificate (mandatory for certain vehicles)
  • Tax token

You’ll be notified via SMS to visit the BRTA office for biometrics (photo, signature, fingerprints). After completing biometrics, BRTA will send another SMS when your Digital Registration Certificate is ready for collection.
